Kiefer on 24 movie: “There are a few familiar faces”

Kiefer Sutherland

Kiefer Sutherland has said there are “a few” familiar faces returning for the 24 movie.

Sutherland has kept fans in the loop about the continued adventures of Jack Bauer since the series finale in 2010. However, recently, it seems momentum on the film has slowed down, as reports last week stated that 20th Century Fox halted work on the movie amid budget concerns and scheduling conflicts.

But Sutherland is setting the record straight. Since he’s busy in production on “Touch” — where he not only stars, but also serves as executive producer — it’s really just a scheduling issue that stopping production on the “24” film.

But don’t worry “24” fans: Sutherland told The Huffington Post that if they can’t figure something out for the small window that he does have available, then they’ll pick back up again in eight months.

“It’s been difficult,” said Sutherland. “It’s been something that I’ve wanted to do for a very long time. It’s also unbelievably hard to write. We finally got a script that we absolutely love, but there are so many moving parts. There are actors that we want to get that might not be available. We have to find the perfect director. Unfortunately, I have a very finite window because of ‘Touch’ and other commitments that I have, as do a lot of the other actors and directors, and so we’re still trying to get it in this very small window, and if that doesn’t happen, then we’ll wait eight months, and we’ll do it properly. What’s most important is that we make the best film possible. The fans definitely deserve that.”

As for who will be joining Sutherland in the film, the actor hints that there will definitely be a few fan favorites. “There are a few [familiar faces in the script], but there are quite a few new ones as well.”

So what the Kief’ is saying is that it MIGHT STILL happen this year, did I get that right?

Of course. Touch has not been greenlit for a season 2 yet, though Fox pretty much decides these things before they even get the ratings in. It’s really all backdoor politics.

Remember (I think it was the 3rd season) of Fringe. It was moved to the Fox Friday Death Slot. Fox knew beforehand they would greenlight another season because they made a promo basically boasting how people hate the Friday Death Slot because that means its canceled. So they were basically showing their hand, that they were so confident that they would not cancel it because of the move. A lot speculate that its Rupert Murdoch’s niece’s main role in the series that keeps it on air. They’re probably right.

And I think that’s a similar deal with Kiefer in Touch. They basically are greenlighting it for a season 2 before it even airs because they favor Kiefer and his company. So as long as the ratings are not abysmal (assuming Nielsen Ratings are even legit, probably not) Touch is coming back for season 2.
