William Joseph Devane (born September 5, 1937) is an American film, television and theater actor, perhaps best known for his role as Greg Sumner on the primetime soap opera Knots Landing (1983-1993).
Biography
William Devane became widely known for his ten years as the villainous Greg Sumner on the drama series Knots Landing, a role which earned him a Golden Globe nomination and multiple Soap Opera Digest Awards, and his role as President Kennedy in the TV film about the Cuban missile crisis, The Missiles of October, which earned him an Emmy nomination.
His many films include McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Marathon Man, The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training, Testament, Payback, Space Cowboys, Hollow Man, The Fall, The River Why and The Dark Knight Rises.
Mr. Devane has also appeared on the television series The West Wing and 24, as well as What About Brian, Crumbs, Stargate SG-1, The X-Files, Judging Amy, Early Edition, Turks, Touched by an Angel, Lois & Clark, Phenom, Hawaii Five-0, Mannix, Ironside and Gunsmoke.
